The Shattering

During this era, the Coalition is under siege from multiple sides. The aftermath of Operation Broken Arrow had unleashed so much crimson into real space that it had potentially contaminated thousands of worlds, which are now crawling with crimson hives and beasts. While these beasts are not a primary threat, the slow spread of crimson to other worlds and the ever-evolving hives pose a potent threat that requires a routine culling.

Next to the spreading crimson are the factions that formed from worlds that were never reintegrated into the Coalition and were under siege. These newly formed, independent factions do not align with either the Coalition or with the Heretic forces. Instead, they forge their own path, even if it means coming into conflict with either faction.

However, the greatest threat however still remained the heretic forces, who had settled into the neighboring sectors and in the center of Emergence point zero itself, known as Heaven's gate. Due to the high concentration of crimson in those sectors, offensive operations have proven to be exponentially costly and deliver only grim results. Gathering intelligence was also impossible because the crimson nebulae blocked most electronic signals and visual detection. Alongside their appearance in real space, they are said to have engaged in a series of conflicts against an enigmatic enemy in the void, known as the "Void Wars".

These three threats have stretched the Coalition thin, especially after the devastating losses in Operation Broken Arrow. There was noticeable political and military instability, which led to internal chaos. Operation Lancaster Strike, an improvised defensive and evacuation plan for worlds afflicted by the sudden proliferation of crimson, was hastily planned and put into action by senior officers who were already grappling with the political chaos that many were also being drawn into. This chaos soon resulted in the 3rd Coalition charter, which remade the Coalition into the "United Coalition".

The United Coalition would elevate the military council to the highest position of power by merging with the operations council. This came to be due to many senior officers and political figures arguing that the current state of the galaxy requires that the military receive full autonomous powers. They argued that the military must have these powers to protect civilized space at any cost. The new Military Operations Council received the power to independently establish military goals, act upon them, procure all required resources and supplies directly, and have unrestricted access to and authority over weapons development projects.

The era ended in 2122 with an event known as the "After war". During this event, Earth was destroyed by nuclear annihilation in mysterious circumstances. This would set off a new chain of change at social and military levels within the Coalition.
